Andrew Schoultz: Myths and Murals
May
5th - June 17th, 2006
Andrew Schoultz is a myth- and storyteller. His finely detailed paintings range from a few inches on canvas and board to many feet on walls, both inside and out. Viewers will discover tightly crafted scenes featuring magnificent sailing vessels making their way though mystical waters. Some murals focus on Escher-like “impossible” structures that tip and sway in unseen windstorms. Schoultz’s work reveals his fondness for trees and flying wishing wells; both are iconic images for him as well as an artistic statement about conservation on a global scale. Playful murals appeal to the child in all of us: whimsical, squat elephants hold court alongside brave armored steeds caught up in perpetual battles. From Tuesday, May 9 through Thursday, May 11, Andrew Schoultz will be at the gallery to create and install a full-size wall mural. The public is encouraged to visit during regular gallery hours to watch him work. Schoultz has had numerous solo and group shows on both coasts of the U.S. He has created and installed murals worldwide including Imaga in Jogjakarta, Indonesia; Kennedy Park in Portland, Maine and City Limits and The World is Our… in San Francisco, California. He has also participated in collaborative group murals across the U. S. Andrew Schoultz received his B.A. from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he lives and works. He has been awarded grants and teaching positions focusing on global cultural communication. |
